Sagging arms means it's time for an arm lift.

Sagging Arms Means It’s Time for an Arm Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure used to correct saggy and loose skin in the upper part of the arm, near the triceps. It also helps tighten the underlying supportive tissue in the upper arms and get rid of pockets of fat.

Advantages of an Arm Lift

An arm lift has many advantages, including physical and psychological benefits. If a person feels that the shape of their arms looks bad or bloated, then an arm lift is the perfect option to correct it. One can tell the surgeon about what they would want the arm to look after the surgery.

Women especially find that they are unhappy with arms that have loose and saggy skin. They often do not feel comfortable with their own bodies when experiencing this issue and are self-conscious wearing sleeveless clothes. Providing a permanent solution to such a problem is often a boost to self-confidence.

Getting rid of excess hanging skin gives a better look to one’s arms. It also improves the flexibility of one’s arms, making them feel lighter. Brachioplasty surgery helps patients feel a great sense of relief; it’s like getting rid of a burden.

The skin near the upper part of the arm feels tighter and stiffer, giving a person a much younger look. Excess fat can be removed and the muscles around the region can be toned during this procedure, giving the patient an overall slimmer look.

Medical Procedure

• The patient is first typically given local anesthesia with IV sedation. This will be discussed in greater detail during the consultation with the plastic surgeon.

• An incision is made on the arm. The length and position of the incision is determined by the amount of loose skin to be removed and its exact location. The incision usually starts somewhere near the underarm and goes up to the elbow.

• If the loose skin is more towards the inner part of the arm, an incision is made on the inner arm. Similarly, if it is towards the back of the arm, an incision is made accordingly. If the loose skin is located near the underarms, a small incision is made near the underarm.

• The layer of skin is detached from the underlying muscles and carefully stretched in order to tighten the skin.

• The fat is removed by a process called liposuction, where the fat is effectively suctioned out using medical suction and a cannula. A cannula is a small tube with a sharp end that is ideal for loosening stubborn fat cells. The cannula is inserted into the region, where it removes the unwanted fatty tissue.

• After the excess skin is trimmed away, the incisions are closed using medical stitches.

Once your arm lift is complete, you will return home and recover from the procedure. Your plastic surgeon will give you detailed instructions regarding the healing process. You should follow these as closely as possible in order to avoid any sort of complications and to get the best results possible.
