Your doctor will first make an incision in the breast area and then remove the excess glandular tissue, skin, and fat from within the target site as needed. The size of the areola can also be reduced to accomplish this.

The incision is then sealed with medical sutures and left to heal. The surgery typically takes somewhere between three to four hours to complete and is performed on an outpatient basis, which means that the patient is not required to spend the night at the hospital.

What to Expect After the Surgery

You will be required to wear a surgical bra or a compression garment for a couple of weeks to prevent any swelling and accumulation of body fluids. Some patients might experience mild pain or discomfort for a few days, which can be alleviated by taking anti-inflammatory and analgesic medication prescribed by your doctor. You will be required to restrict any strenuous activities such as heavy lifting or physically taxing workouts for a few weeks until the operated area has completely healed.
